Warton and District Bowling Club
Formed in 1926, the Club play crown green bowls and the green is situated at the northerly end of Chapel Walk. We currently have around 60 members and will celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2026!
The green is one of the best in the area and visiting bowlers and members enjoy the fine surface which is maintained all year round by club members.
We run 2 teams in the Morecambe Bowling League (A, B) and 2 teams (A & B) in the Lancaster Midweek Bowling League, which are mixed and open age. These matches are played on a Wednesday and Tuesday evenings respectively and starting times are 7.00pm (6.30pm April and August).
Also four vet's teams turn out, two in the South Westmorland Seniors Bowling League (Monday afternoons) and the other two in the Lancaster & District Veterans Bowling League (Thursday afternoons) which are again mixed but for over 60’s.
Finally a ladies' team plays on a Wednesday afternoon in the Lancaster & Morecambe Ladies League.
During the winter months the club plays in the Lancaster Indoor bowling league on a Monday afternoon at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre. Other winter activities include the Floodlit Bowling League on Thursday evenings and a Canasta Club on Wednesday afternoons in the club house.
At all other times during the summer and when the green is fit to be open during the winter, the club is open for social bowling and club competitions, when members can enjoy a game amongst friends.
The club is very friendly and we welcome new members, so whether you wish to play competitive league bowls, take part in a relaxing social game or both, please contact us. If you are new to the game we can arrange a visit and you can see if it's for you. Bowling is very inclusive and most people irrespective of age and fitness can enjoy a game.
Social Membership, for anyone wishing just to play a friendly game of bowls and who does not wish to play in the League Teams, is just £25 a year. Playing Membership, for those taking part in League games, is £60 a year, plus a one-off life-time registration fee £15 to The Crown Green Bowling (BCGBA).
Visitors are very welcome to play with a club member, as our green is locked unless members are playing or practicing, for a nominal £2. If we are on the green and you wish to play, please say hello.
The latest information on our matches and general information is displayed on the noticeboard outside the club. All membership fees updated July 2025.
